Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Hair portfolio
- Healthy hair
Step1
Put together your hair portfolio. If you are serious about making a living as a hair model then you will need a professional looking modeling portfolio. Include photos of you at past hair shows, as well as head shots that illustrate how great you look with various types of hair styles.
Step2
Prepare your hair for casting calls. If you want a job as a model in a hair show then your hair needs to be healthy and shiny. To accomplish this you will need to properly condition, cleanse and groom your hair every day. Always have your hair ready for a last minute audition.
Step3
Search for casting calls for hair shows. "Craigslist" is a great resource for hair show auditions. You will find listings on this site under "talent gigs." You can also search for auditions in your local newspaper. You can sometimes get an audition by cold calling local salons to see if they will be needing a hair model for a commercial or a hair show. Finally, visit hair care product websites to find casting calls and hair modeling programs.
Step4
Show up for an audition. After you have found an audition your next step is to go to it. Make sure that you show up early. The competition for modeling jobs is fierce. Arrive early with your portfolio and healthy hair.
Step5
Go through orientation. The head hunter for the hair show will generally do a quick sweep through those who showed up for the audition and get rid of people that won't work for the particular looks the show will be dealing with. If you don't get cut then you will learn more about the hair show and what the stylists are looking for.
Step6
Present your portfolio to the casting director and answer any questions that they ask you. Generally they will ask you what type of haircuts and styles you will be willing to get. Be open minded, but also keep in mind that you will have to live with the hair makeover after the show is over.
Step7
Show up for rehearsal and show prep. This is usually an hour before the show begins. This is basically just a walk through of what will happen during the hair show.
Step8
Allow your hair stylist to do their job. Hair modeling is pretty easy. Just sit in the chair looking happy and get your hair done. You may interact with your stylist if instructed to do so, otherwise your part is fairly silent.
Step9
Display the hair style. After your hair has been completed you will be asked to show it off to attendees. This may include walking down a catwalk and showing the hair style from different angles. You will also want to highlight the best features of the hair style like its movement or bounce.
