How to Prepare for the ACT Test Day

The American College Test (ACT) is required for application to many colleges and universities. To do your best on the ACT, you will need to spend time studying. You will also need to prepare for the test day itself. You may need to make schedule adjustments or plan out the events of the day to be fully prepared. Read on to learn more.

  1. Step 1

    Schedule your ACT testing time for the time of day when you are at your best. Pick the time when you will be most alert.

  2. Step 2

    Reserve time in your schedule for the ACT so you will not feel rushed during the exam. Scheduling activities or appointments after the test time may cause you difficulty in focusing on the latter portion of the test.

  3. Step 3

    Memorize the directions for the ACT question types ahead of time. This will allow you to maximize the amount of time you spend actively answering questions during the exam.

  4. Step 4

    Rest up the day before your test. Avoid any last minute cramming Take a break and go out with your family or friends to help settle your nerves.

  5. Step 5

    Pack a few snacks and a drink to bring with you to the ACT testing center. Eat a little something just before your test.

Tips & Warnings
  • Schedule the exam for after lunch if you are not a morning person. Unfortunately some locations do not offer different testing times. If this is the case for you, try adjusting your schedule by waking up earlier than usual for a morning test time.
