How to Tour George Mason University

George Mason University is located in the heart of Virginia's technology center near Washington, D.C. Almost 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students attend the university. As the one of most diverse universities in the United States, George Mason offers students a rich campus life and world-class academics. Read on to learn more.

1. Meet a Mason Ambassador. Campus tours are led by Mason Ambassadors, a volunteer group of students. Prior to each tour, an information session is led by an admissions counselor. Tour times are Monday through Friday at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. You must check in ten to fifteen minutes prior to the start time at the Office of Admissions located in the George W. Johnson Center.

2. Stop by Presidents Park, the center of 12 non-smoking residential halls for freshmen. Check out the other housing options as well. The DUCC housing area is home to Dominion Hall, University Commons and Commonwealth Hall. Dominion Hall is a traditional resident hall and University Commons and Commonwealth Hall are suite style living. Apartments and town homes are available at TAP and York River Corner.

3. Chat with current students at the George W. Johnson Center. The center houses a library, media center, computer labs, bank, bookstore and food services. Jazzman's Café, located on the ground floor, is a good place to find students.

4. Discover each campus. George Mason University has three separate campuses-Prince William Campus, Arlington Campus, and the main campus Fairfax Campus. The university has two aquatic and fitness centers, the Center for the Arts Complex, the Patriot Center and a Sport and Entertainment Arena. In addition, stop by and say hi to George, the statute of George Mason.

5. Buy food at Mason Cafe. Each campus has its own dining options. Arlington Campus offers food from Mason Café, while Prince William Campus is served by Randall's Café located in the Occoquan Building. Fairfax Campus has the best variety of dining options. The dining options at this campus include the Johnson Center Food Court and Ciao Hall which is an all-you-care-to-eat residential dining hall.

6. Be a Patriot for a day. George Mason University is the home to the Patriots. There are 20 NCAA Division 1 sports offered at the university. These include baseball, basketball, golf, diving, lacrosse and rowing. Sports facilities include George Mason Stadium, John Linn Memorial Gymnasium, Ray H. "Hap" Spuhler Field and the Patriot Center.
