It can be an exciting project rebuilding an old car, but you need to remember that in order to register it, it will need to meet certain criteria. Below are some of the steps needed in order to register a rebuilt car.
If you want the rebuilt car or van to retain the original registration mark, the car must use the original unmodified chassis or a new chassis of the same modification. This needs to be backed up by the dealer, or by the manufacturer; you can prove this is through a receipt.
Step2
Two of the major components from the original car, such as the suspension or axles, must still be in use. If the chassis or body shell is not brand new or if it is second hand, then the vehicle will need to pass an EVSA or SVA test. If the vehicle passes this test, a prefix “Q” will be allocated to the vehicle.
Step3
If you have a motorcycle then it must have an unmodified frame, and have two of the major components from the previous and original vehicle. An MSVA approval test will be needed if a secondhand frame being used.
Step4
If you have kitted your car out and you have not used more than one reconditioned component, the car can be registered under a current registration mark. This will be subject to proof that the component being reconditioned is as good as new. One of the following tests will be required:
• ESVA • SVA • MSVA
