Potty Train Boys

You will learn how to successfully train your son to use the potty.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • fruit loops or small items
  • colorful stickers
  1. Step 1

Dad, take your son to the potty and ensure that you approach the potty with excitement. Allow your son to observe you using the potty. Again show excitement. This will help him to be at ease with approaching that great white thrown called the potty.

  2. Step 2

On the next trip, take some Fruit Loops and toss them in the potty. Engage your son in identifying the Fruit Loops and demonstrate target practice with the fruit loops. Your son may get so excited that he may want to try target practice also.

  3. Step 3

Continue to reinforce steps 1 and 2 until you get the desired results. After each try, even if he does not urinate in the toliet, but demonstrates the action, reward your son with a colorful sticker on his forehead and make a big deal about it.

  4. Step 4

Try these steps throughout the week. I am sure that you will get great results.

Tips & Warnings
  • Get more information to enhance your ability to train your son.
  • Your son may not hit the target, he could aim on the floor. That's ok! He's trying to get the hang of it.
  • Go into this training with the understanding that this is one time, your child is calling the shots.

on 2/3/2008 I believe your advice in how to "train your son to use the potty" was great. However, being a single mom when my son showed interest in wanting to use the potty, I just sat him up on the potty facing the toilet tank and sat on the tub next to him singing his favorite songs. He was 18 months old at this time, I know young, but he was ready. Then, there came a time when he saw his older male cousin 3yrs old using the potty and being the little competitor that he was, it was no time he was in the standing position taking aim.
