    Transport a Snowboard

  1. Step 1

See whether you can fit your snowboard in your vehicle. Some cars allow you to fold down the back seats and extend the size of your trunk. Almost all snowboards will fit in the back of a pickup truck or minivan.

  2. Step 2

Protect your vehicle from your snowboard. The sharp edges on the sides of your board can cut into the interior of your car. Try to lay the board flat and use foam inserts or ski bags to protect its edges.

  3. Step 3

Place a second snowboard on top of the first. Make sure the second board is upside-down. This way, the arrangement of the bindings can hold the boards in place.

  4. Step 4

Consider buying a roof rack to save space inside the car. On most racks, your board will lie flat on the roof, and you can strap it into place. A ski shop or your car dealership may be able to recommend several different racks to suit your needs.

  5. Step 5

Buy a soft snowboard case to protect your board on bus or plane ski trips. These bags are insulated with soft material to protect the edges of your snowboard. Look for a bag with straps and handles to make it easier to transport your snowboard.

Tips & Warnings
  • When deciding how to transport your snowboard, remember to consider how many people are traveling in the car with you and how many bags you're bringing. You may have to take several cars if you are going on a trip with a group of people.
  • If you ever have to ship your snowboard, remember to insure it for the combined value of the deck and bindings.
  • When you move or fly across country for a skiing vacation, ask ski shops whether they have some old snowboard boxes they can give you. These boxes will make packing and protecting your snowboard much easier.
  • Always double check to be sure the boards are fastened into the roof rack before driving off.
  • If you transport your snowboard in the bed of a truck, place a heavy ski bag across the middle of the board. The bag will stop the board from sliding around during transport.
