Step2
Collaborate with another teacher at your students' grade level for a cross-disciplinary approach to the material.

Tips & Warnings

  • Thanks to the wealth of multi-media material now available on the Internet, a teacher can let Dr. King carry a large part of the load in presenting curriculum to students about his legacy, his philosophy and his eloquence. Give your students direct access to his voice and his presence.
  • Always be prepared for possible controversy when presenting curriculum involves issues around race, social action and values. The Education World website offers an opportunity to face the possibility of controversy head-on by linking to a unit called Evaluating Web Sites for Bias (Grades 6-12, Advanced) in which students use a checklist work sheet to evaluate Web content about Martin Luther King, Jr. for bias.
