How to Identify Political Party Symbols

Each political party has its own symbol, an icon that sets them apart from other parties. Each symbol was chosen to give the assurance that when a person looks at it, they will instantly be filled with the ideals and goals of the party. Colors, objects or animals and the direction the symbol faces all play a vital role in demonstrating what the political party stands for.

      Understand the color of each symbol and what it represents. The color blue stands for a liberal political view, while red stands for a conservative view. while white signals a third or independent party.

      Realize the color green in an American political symbol demonstrates environmental concern.

      Look at the direction of the symbol to understand the political viewpoint. Left-facing symbols stand for liberalism, while right-facing symbols stand for conservatism. Center-facing symbols stand for centrism and liberalism.

    Identify Current Political Party Symbols

      Identify the American Independent Party symbol by looking for a flag depicting an eagle that is holding a group of arrows in its left talons. This is over a compass rose, with a banner which reads "The American Independent Party" at the eagle's base.

      Recognize the political symbol for the Democratic Party by looking for a donkey. This animal is facing the left to signify the political position of the party. The donkey is blue in color with a red head.

      Identify the Republican Party symbol by looking for an elephant. The elephant will be facing the right, is red in color on the bottom half, blue in color on the top half and has three white stars in the blue area.

      Identify the Green Party of the United States by looking for an appropriately green-colored sunflower. Inside the sunflower is a globe of the earth, wrapped and protected by the leaves of the sunflower.

      Recognize the American Reform Party symbol by looking for a brown or blue colored bison within a circle. The bison is tilted toward the center left. The American Reform Party chose the bison because of its role in American history as a free-roaming citizen on American soil.

      Identify the American Party symbol by looking for an eagle head, formed on top of a flag in the shape of a red, white and blue letter "A." The eagle head is facing the right side.

      Recognize the America First Party symbol by looking for a blue circle with white stars within the blue. Inside the circle a man is standing in the color blue, holding a gun and hovering over a red and white flag.
