Get a Ride to the Polling Stations

There are a variety of county resources that encourage citizens to vote by making it easier to get to the polling stations. There are also many polling stations so that voters will not have to leave their neighborhoods to vote.

Get a Ride To the Polling Stations

  1. Step 1

Look on your voter registration card to see where your polling station is located. Usually stations are located at local libraries or schools for neighborhood convenience and parking access.

  2. Step 2

Call your County Clerk's office to see what programs are offered for transportation to the polling stations on Election Day.

  3. Step 3

Check the local bus schedules for information to get a ride to your precinct. Some counties offer free bus service on Election Day, just to get more voters out to the polling stations.

  4. Step 4

Organize a small carpool with some friends. This method saves gas and gives you accountability that ensures you get out of the house and perform your American civic duty.

  5. Step 5

Call a taxicab company because they may be offering a special discount or even free service to get you to the polls and back home on Election Day.

  6. Step 6

Contact your local Secretary of State office. If you are unable to get a ride to the polling stations, they may be able to supply you with a state-sponsored voucher for transportation on Election Day.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are unable to get to the polling station location on Election Day, consider filling out an application for an absentee ballot. This type of ballot allows you to send in your vote, but you must apply for this type of ballot at least one week before an election.
  • Remember to bring your ID with you when you vote. You may be required to prove who you are, even if your name is already on the list.
  • Don't wait until Election Day morning to try to get a ride to the polling stations. Do your research and set something up beforehand.

on 11/4/2008 I always thought I was just an average guy. Certainly no better or worse or smarter than anyone else, especially everyone I know or have known. Since coming to this site and in particular the "how to's" about voting etc., I have come to realize that I am a freaking genius. I am amazed at some of these writings. America is in deep need of mental and emotional help.
