The Internet has experienced a proliferation of blogs in the past few years. Blogs run the gamut of topics, from personal reflections (almost like an online diary) to specific news topics. The heavy involvement of the United States in the affairs of other countries has made foreign policy blogs quite popular. There is a foreign policy blog for almost every interest. If you subscribe to a foreign policy blog, you will get email notification whenever the blog is updated.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Subscribe to a Foreign Policy Blog

  1. Step 1

Find the right blog for you. The blog you subscribe to should be one that closely matches your interests and opinions.

  2. Step 2

Read several weeks' worth of blog entries before deciding whether or not to subscribe to a particular blog. You won't get a good feel for the overall tone and slant of a blog until you've read a good deal of it.

  3. Step 3

Peruse the comments of other readers. The blog you subscribe to should be one with a community of readers you feel comfortable with. After all, you will probably be adding comments of your own and interacting with these users on a regular basis.

  4. Step 4

Try a test comment or two. See what sort of responses you get. Engage other readers in conversation or debate. If you feel uncomfortable with any of this, this may not be the right blog for you.

  5. Step 5

Click on the "subscribe" link on the blog when you've made your decision. Follow the ensuing sign-up instructions (this may vary from blog to blog). You will begin getting notices any time the blog is updated.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always use proper courtesy when dealing with other blog readers. You would want the same sort of consideration. If you are deliberately rude or divisive, you may end up getting banned from posting further comments.
  • If you can't find a foreign policy blog that interests you, consider starting your own. You can put your blog on a free blog hosting site like Blogger (see Resources below) or you can get your own domain name and host your blog there. Be aware that if you get your own domain name, there will be a fee associated with this.
  • You might want to subscribe to a blog with opinions you disagree with in order to keep up to date on the opposition. This is a good way to gain information to strengthen your own opinions and to help direct any political involvement you plan to participate in regarding foreign policy issues.
