How to Join the Congressional Hispanic Caucus

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus is made up of Hispanic members of Congress. Those who are not Senators or Representatives can join the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, a group of political advocates, officially non-partisan, but unofficially affiliated with the Democratic Party. Hispanics are the largest growing number of voters in the country and as such desire that there be more issues related to the Hispanic community addressed on a national level. The only way to achieve this is to vote for representatives who will create and support Hispanic agendas on a consistent basis.

Join the Hispanic Caucus

1. Start by teaming up with a Coordinated Campaign in your state. You should participate in activities created by your state's Coordinated Campaign as a way to join the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute and fight for your agenda.

2. Call talk radio programs in your area on behalf of the Hispanic Caucus. Express your opinions and resolutions as they relate to the improvement of Hispanic communities and other Hispanic agendas.

3. Write an opinion editorial piece and send it to your local newspaper requesting publication. Make your piece intelligent and persuasive, highlighting key Hispanic issues and possible resolutions.

4. Submit a letter to the editor describing your views and understanding of political Hispanic news and information. Keep your eye out for follow-ups to news articles written about Hispanic people or businesses in your area.

5. Volunteer your time when you join the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute by going door to door or taking on administrative tasks for Coordinated Campaigns in your area. You can choose to work with the Hispanic Caucus or for individually sponsored candidates.

6. Register others to vote. You can gather voter registration applications and set up tables in public places. You can help potential voters fill out the applications, then at the end of the day, bundle them up and mail them in.

7. Contribute money to join the Hispanic Caucus Institute. Without proper funding through endorsements, sponsorships, contributions and fund-raising, the Caucus would not be able to carry out its goals for the Hispanic communities around the nation.
