Handmade gift tags are always a creative touch to add to a gift. Hanukkah gift tags, like tags for other occasions, can be made in dozens of different designs. Some traditional Hanukkah symbols such as the Star of David--a six-pointed star--a dreidel or a menorah are popular choices. Gift tags are easy to make and a good craft to do with children.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

  • Colored paper

Make Hanukkah Gift Tags for Your Gifts

Step1
Draw the shape you want your Hanukkah gift tags to be on a piece of cardboard of heavy paper stock. Use a pencil so you can revise if needed. A Star of David, a dreidel and a menorah are all items associated with Hanukkah but you can choose plain geometric shapes such as a rectangle, triangle or circle as well.
Step2
Cut the gift tag shape out of the cardboard with a pair of scissors. This is your template for your gift tags.
Step3
Choose a piece of colored paper for your gift tags. This can be construction paper, fancier scrapbooking paper, wrapping paper or any other material you think will look nice.
Step4
Turn the piece of paper upside down to the non-decorated side if the color or pattern is only on one side.
Step5
Trace your template shape onto your colored paper with a pencil. Write lightly so that the pencil does not mark the patterned side of the paper. Repeat as needed if you are able to fit more than one tag onto the paper.
Step6
Use scissors to cut the gift tags out of the decorated paper.
Step7
Flip the tag over to the colored side and neaten the edges if needed. Sometimes you may need to trim slivers of paper with the scissors.
Step8
Decorate your Hanukkah gift tags with markers or crayons if desired. If your gift tags look like dreidels, you can put a Hebrew letter on it. The letters on a dreidel are "nun","gimmel", "hay" and "shin."
Step9
Make a hole at the top or side of your gift tags with a hole punch.
Step10
Cut a 2 to 4-inch length of thin ribbon to make a loop. Insert it into the hole you have made, and tie.
Step11
Tie your gift tag onto the handle of a gift bag or use a glue stick to attach it to a present.

Tips & Warnings

  • Experiment making several templates of different sizes and shapes. This can be a learning activity for children to compare size and learn shape names.
