Things You'll Need:
- Glue, stickers or markers for decorating cards
- Chocolate coins for bets
- Quitli cards
- Hanukkah card set
- Scissors
- Craft paper
- Pen and paper to keep score
- Regular card set
-
Step 1
Set up a special table in the living room for guests who want to start a card game after dinner. Instead of cleaning up the kitchen table, give hopeful players their own space so they can stop and return to the game as often as they wish.
-
Step 2
Buy a Hanukkah card set, which is simply a deck of cards featuring symbols and images related to Hanukkah instead of the traditional numbers and suits commonly found in a deck of cards. Once you have a Hanukkah set of cards, it's easy to play traditional games such as Go Fish, Rummy and Crazy 8s.
-
Step 3
Play the memory card game (also known as the matching game). For this game, you can either make your own cards or use a Hanukkah card set. In any case, you need to make sure that all cards have an identical card to match. To play, simply mix the cards and put them face down on the table so players can choose two at a time and try to match them.
-
Step 4
Create your own games. Encourage kids to design their own cards and invent a game to play with them. You can also create a variation of a traditional game incorporating elements of Hanukkah into the mix.
-
Step 5
Learn to play Quitlok, a traditional Jewish card game that has been around for almost a century (see Resources below). To play the game you need to first find a deck of 24 Quitlok cards, which can be purchased at specialty Judaica stores. Quitlok is quite a complicated game, but it can be learned in a couple of days once you put your time and effort into it.
