Recite the All Saints Day Readings

Step1
Purchase a Bible or lectionary if you don't already have one. You can find bibles almost anywhere but most definitely at bookstores. You can buy a lectionary at your local Christian bookstore.
Step2
Find a list of the readings for All Saints Day. Contact your church office for information. You can also check websites dedicated to maintaining information on Holy days celebrated by Christians(see Resources below).
Step3
Offer to deliver the readings to the church congregation on All Saints Day. Some churches have a special team of readers who sign up to read on certain days while others leave this open for anyone who would like to read at each service. Consider becoming a reader if your church has such a program.
Step4
Create a special time to go through the readings with your family if you can't make it to your church on All Saints Day. Each person can take turns reading. After the readings, encourage your family members to talk about what the readings meant to them, how they think it applies to All Saints Day and what they learned that they can apply to their own lives.
Step5
Have an All Saints Day celebration at your house which will include the readings for the day. Invite your Priest or Pastor and ask him to give a talk on the messages behind the readings. Keep in mind, however, that the early part of this day may be a busy one for your pastor. Consider holding your celebration later in the day.
Step6
Buy a children's Bible. Purchase a children's Bible that is appropriate for the age of your child. Read stories of saints to them and explain what makes these people special. Perform other age appropriate activities that will help your child understand the significance of the day. For instance, you can recite poems and sing songs about saints or have your child recite what she has learned about saints.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a bookmark to mark the pages and texts to be read in your bible or lectionary. This will make them easier to find.
  • Highlight the areas of the texts that made an impact on you. You may want to read these later and meditate on the messages behind them.
