All Saints Day is not just a day for saints recognized by the Catholic Church. All Saints Day is a day to honor these people and celebrate their lives.

Honor Saints on All Saints Day

  1. Step 1

Attend a church service. Many churches celebrate All Saints Day, including the Catholic, Episcopal, Methodist and Lutheran churches. The readings and hymns are specially chosen for this day and they focus on those in the Bible who have shown faith in God.

  2. Step 2

Read books about saints. Before they were called saints, they were regular people dealing with everyday life. Many books have been written to show the kind of struggles they had to deal with.

  3. Step 3

Read sections of the Bible containing stories of saints. The books of the Old and New Testament contain stories of people who fought great odds to follow God's word and keep their faith, often losing their lives in the process.

  4. Step 4

Spend the day with your family watching movies or documentaries about saints. You can find them at catholic stores, video rental stores, bookstores with movie sections and department stores.

  5. Step 5

Help to continue the work started by a saint. Look for a charity dedicated to your favorite saint and contact the coordinator. Ask if there are any volunteer opportunities or any other way in which you can help.

  6. Step 6

Donate to charities in honor of the person who has had the most positive influence in your life or the canonized saint of your choice. You can donate money, food or goods.

  7. Step 7

Pass the lesson on. Teach others what you have learned from the people who have touched your life. The stories will be especially helpful for children who need role models.

  8. Step 8

Light candles in honor of someone who was a positive force in your life. Prepare a table in a safe corner of your house, place a few pictures of your loved one on the table and light some candles. Some churches, especially Catholic Churches, also have special spots in which people can light candles and quietly reflect.

  9. Step 9

Spend the day in reflection. Think about the lives of the saints you know, the problems they encountered and how they solved them. Also think about what effects their achievements may have had on your religion and how you may like to apply their life lessons to your own life.
