Playing the Piano can be fun and easy if you learn some basics and master chords. You will be able to play popular songs from song books. You can also write your own songs and accompany yourself on the piano.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Piano / Keyboard

Step1
All the keys (white & black) on the piano come down to basically seven letters: A, B, C, D, E, F AND G. That's it !! The first white key all the way to the left of the piano is the C note, followed by the D note, E note, etc. After the B note, it starts over again with the C note and continues all the way till the end of the keyboard. Look at the photo to see all the notes. From C note to C note is called an Octave. Keep in mind the C note is always the white key that is in front of the two black keys that are together. The F note is always the white key right in front of the three black keys that are together. The keyboard just starts with the C note and repeats the Octave over and over again.
Step2
The black notes are simply sharps or flats. A sharp (#) is always the black note right after the white note. Example: C# (c sharp) is the black note right after the C note. D# (d sharp) is the black note right after the white D note, etc. So starting with the C# you have C#, D#,F#, G#, A#. Let's move on to Flat notes.
Step3
The black notes that are right behind the white notes are known as Flats (b). So starting with the first black note on the keyboard, it would be Db (d flat), Eb, Gb, Ab and Bb. So yes, each black note is a sharp and flat. The C# is also Db. Different pieces of music is written were the black notes are sharps or the black notes are flats. So study the keys on the piano and master which keys are what lettered notes.
Step4
Another thing you should recognize is that the C note in the middle of the piano keyboard is known as Middle C. It can usually be found right under the name of the piano. Usually the notes to the right side of middle C are played with the right hand and the notes on the left side of middle C are played with the left hand.

Tips & Warnings

  • Exercise: Starting with middle C on the piano, play thes notes with your right hand. You play slowly and then pick up the pace. You can play the first three notes and pause, then play the next three note and so on. You can also play the first three notes and go right on to the next three with out a break in between. Try playing these in different ways. You'll notice how each time you change the speed and the way your playing sounds different.
  • C, D, E - D, E, F - E, F, G - F, G, A - G, A, B - C
