For those who have watched the British horror film the Wickerman, you will have guessed that this festival ends with the burning of a 30-foot Wickerman, but without the human sacrifice trapped inside. Located in East Kirkcarswell in Scotland, the festival distances itself from its more commercial cousins in a bid to recreate the counter culture festivals from years gone.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Check out the Wickerman Festival website (link below).
Step2
Understand what the ticket price includes. For the Wickerman Festival the price covers entrance and camping. In addition there is an extra £5 charge for parking and £10 if you want to stay in your camper van or caravan.
Step3
Book your tickets. This can be done online at Ticket Master (link below) or by phoning them on 0870 154 4040. Tickets will be sent by special Royal Mail delivery.
Step4
Decide who you want to see. There are two main stages, a world music and funk tent, an eden zone, a classic Jamaican reggae sound system and an acoustic village. You'll also find a craft stall, children's areas and workshops. The burning of the Wickerman occurs on the Saturday night.
Step5
Plan how to get there. The festival is in East Kirkcarswell between Dundrennan and Auchencairn. It's recommended that you drive; for more detailed directions, visit the AA website in the resources section below.
Step6
Catch a festival bus. The skiddle bus can be caught from Preston and Carlisle at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. respectively and takes people back at noon on Sunday--tickets can be bought online at the Wickerman website. If you are taking a train to Dumfries station there is a shuttle bus to the festival site.
Step7
Alternatively you can share a car with another festival goer. For more information go to the Freewheelers link below.
