Step 1
The key to ensuring the perfect paint job is preparation, so before you start, gather up your supplies so they’re within easy reach.
-
Step 2
To prep the surface, first remove nails with your hammer, fill any holes or cracks with spackling and sand.
-
Step 3
Fill your plastic bucket with warm water and a mild all-purpose cleanser. Wash the walls with your mixture, paying special attention to problem areas like mildew stains.
-
Step 4
If you’re not an expert painter put a roll of painter’s tape to use. Because it’s a low-tack tape, it won’t damage your trim.
-
Step 5
Now for color. If you’re painting over a strong shade, consider using a primer. It acts like a barrier and keeps your existing color from bleeding through your new paint job. Primer dries fast and reduces the number of top coats, saving you time and money.
-
Step 6
When you need a break, just seal your paint rollers and brushes in plastic and pop them in the fridge until you’re ready to finish the job.
