How to Plan a Nevada Day Trip to Hoover Dam
Hoover Dam is located on the Nevada and Arizona border, approximately 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas. Hoover Dam was build during the Depression and is considered to be a modern day Civil Engineering Wonder. Tours run daily at the dam and prove to be interesting as well as informative.

Drive to the dam and park in the Hoover Dam parking garage. For a small fee, park in the garage daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Arrive at the dam before 3:00 p.m. in order to complete a tour. No pedestrians are allowed on the dam after night fall.

Purchase tickets in the visitor's center. Explore the visitor's center and dam exhibits at your own pace.

Ride the elevators down to the Black Canyon. Explore the dam's power plant and giant generators.

Access the overlook by walking down stairs or riding the elevator next to the exhibit gallery. Take in the panoramic view of Lake Mead and the Colorado River.

Wander through the many informational exhibits. Listen to tour guide information at various stopping points on the tour.

Walk across the dam. Stand at the border between Arizona and Nevada with one foot in each state. Take a picture for a fun scrapbook memory.

Tips & Warnings
Contact the Black Canyon/Willow Beach River Adventures at (702) 494-2204 and make arrangements to float the Colorado River at the base of the dam.
Arrive at Hoover Dam right when it opens. Summer tours are busy and extremely hot in the middle of the day.
Bring and drink plenty of water, especially during the scorching hot summer.
Pets are not allowed in any location of the dam.
The parking facility accepts cash only.
