Plan a trip to the New England state of Connecticut. The state is accessible by car, bus, train, plane and ferry. There are many family-fun things to do exclusive to Connecticut. Follow the tips below for planning a family vacation in Connecticut.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Step aboard 19th-century ships at Mystic Seaport. There is also a 19th-century seaside village to visit. Learn about American maritime history and take part in the experience hands-on.

  2. Step 2

Visit B.F. Clyde's Cider Mill in Mystic. The last steam-powered cider mill in New England, it produces apple cider, hard ciders and apple wines. It is open seven days a week, but only in the fall.

  3. Step 3

Go to Mystic Aquarium and see a huge collection of the sea's creatures. Touch a beluga whale, see penguins, sea lions, and many more. See the special exhibit featuring the world's most famous sinking ship--the Titanic.

  4. Step 4

Take part in some of Connecticut's outdoor recreation opportunities at West Rock Ridge State Park. Go camping, hiking fishing or boating along the shoreline or in one of the inland lakes. There are also winter sport activities including skiing, snowmobiling, ice skating and dog sledding.

  5. Step 5

Have a blast at Lake Compounce Family Theme Park in Bristol. There are plenty of wild rides, water rides, entertainment and even special attractions for children as small as 3 years old.

  6. Step 6

Take the family on a sailing adventure by going on a Mystic Whaler Cruise. See many islands and lighthouses. The cruises feature lobster dinners, 3 to 5 day vacations, private rentals or just day trips. Call ahead of time since reservations fill up quickly during the summer.

  7. Step 7

See an amazing collection of submarine artifacts at the Historic Ship Nautilus and Submarine Force Museum. It is located in Groton on the river Thames. Step aboard the USS Nautilus and visit the torpedo room. Experience being a true submariner.
