Things You’ll Need:

• Valid Arizona driver's license
• High school diploma or GED

1. Meet the four minimum qualifications. These include being 21 years of age by academy graduation, having a valid Arizona driver's license, holding a high school diploma or GED equivalent and being a legal United States citizen.
2. Take the next step and apply for the position of Arizona Cadet Officer. You may download an application from the Arizona Department of Public Safety website or you may contact DPS Human Resource office at 602-223-2290 to request an application.
3. Pass a multiple choice test of 100 questions and receive a score of at least 75%.
4. Participate in a physical fitness test that consists of six events. You must pass each event to move on to the next. Any failures will result in disqualification.
5. Display problem solving abilities and interpersonal skills while taking an oral examination.
6. Proceed to the next parts of the testing process which include a polygraph test, background check, psychological evaluation and drug testing. After passing all of these requirements, the successful candidate will be able to attend the training academy.
