Concealed weapon laws vary by state. If you're a citizen of Vermont or plan to become one in the future, you might be wondering how to obtain a permit to carry concealed weapons. You'll be happy to know that a permit is not required. That being said, here are some guidelines to carrying a concealed weapon, such as a handgun, in the state of Vermont.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Drivers license and birth certificate
  1. Step 1

Be of age. In the state of Vermont, that age is 16 or older. You must be at least 16 years of age to legally purchase a gun and keep it loaded on your person in public.

  2. Step 2

Obtain permission from a parent or guardian to carry a gun if you're under the age of 16. Failure to do so may result in being deemed a delinquent child by the state.

  3. Step 3

Have a clean record if purchasing a firearm. Things like felony convictions and dishonorable military discharge will show up during the federal instant check, and prohibit purchase.

  4. Step 4

Keep your concealed weapon at home if going to a courthouse or school (including administration buildings and buses). Failure to do so could result in fines of up to $1,000 and/or one year in prison.

  5. Step 5

Keep weapon concealed unless in situations of self-defense. Aiming and/or discharging weapon in situations aside from protection could result in fines from $50 to $100 and/or up to a year in prison.

Tips & Warnings
  • Avoid illegal accessories such as silencers. Possession or use of a silencer shall be fined $25 per offense.
