Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Photograph less than one moth old
  • Firearm Safety Course Certificate
  • $55 to cover the permit fee
  1. Step 1

Take a firearm safety course. You will need to have a copy of the certificate of completion of a firearm safety course in order to apply for a permit. Contact local shooting ranges, your county's Sheriff's office or the Ohio Department of Justice for class availability.

  2. Step 2

Apply in person. You can apply for a concealed carry permit in either the Sheriff's office in your county or an adjacent county. Bring your firearm safety class certificate and a current photograph to the permit office. Contact the Sheriff's office for exact requirements as some offices will copy your original certificate only on site and may require a passport style photograph.

  3. Step 3

Affirm that you have read Ohio's pamphlet on using deadly force. Allow your fingerprints to be taken.

  4. Step 4

    Pay the license fee.

  5. Step 5

Pick up your concealed carry permit at the permit office. The Sheriff's office has 45 days to process your application.

  6. Step 6

Renew your concealed carry permit. The permit is only valid for five years.
