Step 1
Take special care to make a cat's favorite places more accessible. If your cat is truly fat, he or she won't be able to jump up on a favorite window sill, so place a stool by it to divide the jump into workable steps. Adjust a dome litter box if the cat's weight makes accessing it difficult.
-
Step 2
Evaluate what and how often you feed your cat. Try different brands of diet cat food and cut down on snacks, even if you cat pesters you for them.
-
Step 3
Let the cat walk around outside. Even if you live in an apartment building, allow your pet cat to walk on the balcony or in a safe communal area daily.
-
Step 4
Play with your cat. The more active your cat is the healthier he or she will be, even if they don't lose a lot of their present fat cat weight. Use fancy cat toys, string, and rubber balls to capture your pet's attention and get him moving.
-
Step 5
Snap photos of your cat or take videos. Fat cat pictorials are in demand on the web, so get your pet out there. He or she may become a feline celebrity, and take you along for the ride.
-
Step 6
Visit your veterinarian if you see any changes in your fat cat's litter box habits, personality, breathing or mobility. Some cats can live to a ripe old age with extra weight, while others need to lose that fat to live a long life.
