How to Organize Bath Toys

If you have children, your bathroom can easily become enveloped with lots of wet and soggy bath toys. They end up underfoot, on counter tops and everywhere in between. Follow these simple steps and you can end bath toy disorganization forever.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Bath toy organizer
Step1
Throw out anything that is old or mildewed. If your children have a hard time letting go of the toys, tell them that you will take them on a bath toy shopping spree. Take them to the dollar store and buy them some new bath toys (preferably ones without holes in them that can trap and store water.)
Step2
Wash what you are keeping. You can wash bath toys in the top rack of the dishwasher as long as they are secure. Turn off the dry cycle, pull out the toys and let them air dry.
Step3
Buy a mildew resistant bath toy organizer, preferably one that will suction cup to the shower wall. There are many good models out there from mesh bags at the dollar store to more expensive, heavy-duty models. The important thing is that the organizer has holes in it that will allow the toys to drip dry in the tub.
Step4
Start good habits. Every time the kids get out of the tub drain all the water from the toys and put them away in their organizer. Hang any plush or spongy toys to dry.
Step5
Put the toys in the dishwasher and wash again every two weeks.

Tips & Warnings

  • Consider letting your children play with washrags and plastic cups in the bath, which can easily be thrown in the hamper and kitchen sink afterwards. These "toys" can be lots of fun and stimulate the imagination.
  • If you don't have a dishwasher put toys in a bucket with hot water and a half cup of bleach. Let soak for an hour and then rinse them in hot water in the sink, being sure to squeeze out all the bleach water from the bath toys.
