How to Skin a Wild Boar

So, you've got yourself a dead, wild boar and you want a barbecue. Sounds great, but wait, what's this? There is a whole bunch of skin between you and all of that sweet, juicy pork. How do you get rid of the skin?
Well, like a cat, there is more than one way to skin a hog. We have done a lot of research to find the simplest method. It was hard, and fattening, but here is the simplest method for skinning a wild boar.

Things You'll Need

  • Box cutting razor knife (with extra blades)
  • Heavy duty cable or meat hook
  • Pliers

Instructions

    • 1

Hang the boar on a heavy tree branch by its snout. A heavy duty hook or cable through both sides of the snout is good for this. The idea is to get the cable or hook through as much flesh as possible.

    • 2

Cut a ring around starting below an ear and continuing all the way around the neck keeping underneath the other ear. The effect should be sort of a necklace cut all the way around the hog's neck.

    • 3

Use the razor to cut rings around the top of each leg (where it meets the body). Cut a similar ring just above the knee connect these rings with a shallow straight cut. Peel off the skin using the knife to cut the fat, when necessary.

    • 4

Use a razor to cut the hide in two-inch strips down the body. Start at the necklace that was cut earlier.

    • 5

Grasp the top of each of the strips of skin with pliers and pull them down. Peel the skin strips off carefully. Use the knife to help separate the skin from the fat.

    • 6

Repeat until there is no skin left.

Tips & Warnings

  • Have extra blades as the tough skin will dull the razor.

  • Hold the blade at an angle when cutting through the skin to avoid cutting into the boar's flesh.

  • This is much harder than skinning a deer. The skin is very tough and will dull blades. It may be necessary to cut through the fat under the skin as the hog is skinned.
