You don't have to love buttermilk to enjoy a buttermilk pie. The pie is versatile and makes a tasty end to any meal. This is an easy recipe that takes about an hour and a half to prepare and cook. Top the pie with sliced berries or melted chocolate to add a fresh or sweet taste to the dessert.

Things You'll Need:

  • 3 eggs
  • 3 tsp. flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • 1/3 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 9-inch pie crust
  1. Step 1

    Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.

  2. Step 2

    Beat the eggs in a large bowl.

  3. Step 3

    Sift the flour and sugar together in a separate bowl.

  4. Step 4

    Melt the butter in a saucepan on the stove.

  5. Step 5

    Add the flour, sugar and butter to the eggs in the large bowl. Mix well.

  6. Step 6

    Combine the buttermilk, lemon juice and nutmeg into the mixture. Add the coconut and nuts. Stir until all of the ingredients are blended together.

    Pour the mix into the pie crust.

    Place the pie in the oven and cook at 325 degrees for 1 hour.

  • Try replacing the coconut with 2 Granny Smith apples for a different taste.
