How to Bake a Strawberry Pie

Strawberry pie is an easy recipe that can be made with regular sugar or with a sugar substitute for a healthier, sugar-free dessert. Get your children involved in the baking and have them help you make the pie. The recipe is simple and the outcome is worth the effort.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 1 9-inch pie shell
  • 1 quart strawberries
  • 3 1/2 tbls. cornstarch
  • 1 cup sugar or sugar substitute
  • 2 tbls. lemon juice
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened pineapple juice
  • 1/2 envelope unflavored, unsweetened gelatin

Step1
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Step2
Cook the pie shell until the edges are golden brown. It usually takes between 20 and 45 minutes.
Step3
Cut the strawberries into thin slices.
Step4
Mix the cornstarch, sugar and lemon juice in a saucepan. Place the pan over low heat and stir.
Step5
Mix in half of the strawberries and all of the pineapple juice.
Step6
Continue to stir the mixture constantly over the heat until it becomes thick.
Step7
Remove the pan from the heat and allow the mix to cool.
Step8
Add the remainder of the strawberries and all of the gelatin.
Step9
Pour the mix into the cooked pie shell.
Step10
Place the pie in the refrigerator and allow it to set. This normally takes about 2 hours. Remove the pie when set and serve.

Tips & Warnings

  • Serve your strawberry pie topped with whipped cream or ice cream.
  • This recipe yields 6 to 8 servings depending on the size of your slices.
