Contrary to modern-day depictions of cavemen, there is archaeological proof that prehistoric man shaved by using two shells to pluck hair off their faces. Through the years, people have been consumed with body hair, inventing torturous processes for its removal. It's been over twenty years since the first epilator appeared on the market, but some say they're probably not much better than the shells used so long ago.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Decide how often you're willing to shave and how much pain you are willing to endure to shave less often. It takes about a month for hair to grow back after using an epilator. That's because an epilator grabs and removes hair by the root.
Step2
Determine how much you want to pay if you buy an epilator. The average price for a unit is around $60 but some brands are better than others and can carry price tags of up to $200.
Step3
Research the different epilators available. The Internet is a great place for comparison shopping. There are some websites that list each brand, its features, and consumer-written reviews of each.
Step4
Consider other aspects of an epilator besides performance, such as durability, ease of cleaning and loudness, the latter being a particularly important consideration when you buy an epilator since they are notoriously loud.
Step5
Educate yourself and be realistic about what the product can and cannot do. If you buy an epilator, you need to know no matter what advertising claims are made about its ability to provide permanent hair removal, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) currently has no performance standard for epilators. Therefore, you will have no recourse if the epilator does not perform as you expect.

Tips & Warnings

  • Before buying an epilator, check with your doctor about possible dermatological problems that could arise from use.
