Dating a punk can be an interesting experience, especially if you are not a punk yourself. Punk rock culture is quite different than mainstream culture and the standard of romance can be a shock to people accustomed to a traditional view of dating, but a couple of tips can help you successfully date a punk rocker.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Combat boots
  • Piercings (real or fake)
  1. Step 1

Determine where you can meet punks in your local area. Typically punks have a specific scene they hang out in, which consists of "underground" concerts and hangouts that mainstream society doesn't frequent.

  2. Step 2

Dress the part. You want to ensure that your punk likes your style. Study the style of punks and adapt the style to your own. Dress authentically because if you don't, you will seem fake and feel uncomfortable.

  3. Step 3

Listen to punk music. Dating a punk will not come without knowing about various punk groups. It is essential to punk culture to know the music history and philosophy behind punk rock. Punk rock is centered around rebellion and liberalism, and these ideas are reflected in their music.

  4. Step 4

Frequent punk rock shows and mingle with the patrons. Mingling in a punk rock sense typically involves moshing or slam dancing, which can be painful if not learned correctly. A good way to meet someone would be to slam into them during a particularly hardcore song.

  5. Step 5

Zero in on the punk you want to date and try to find out who their favorite band is. Typically you can ask the inhabitants of their favorite hang out what they are specifically into. Doing research on your love interest will help you to pinpoint their specific interests.

  6. Step 6

Strike up a conversation with your interest, preferably about music or politics. Try to talk about things you know about and have done your research on. Flirting helps too.

  7. Step 7

Make a date to go to a show or political protest with your new romantic interest. Punk culture bonds through music and protest. Then stay up all night after your first date and talk politics and social issues to find common ground.

Tips & Warnings
  • Brush up on your punk rock icons. Some major contributors to punk culture include the Sex Pistols, the Ramones and The Clash. If you bag a date with a hot punk and you don't know who Sid Vicious is, you might be in for a short night.
  • Don't date a punk if you are naturally extremely conservative or right wing. This will not translate into the punk subculture.
  • Research which punk group you are looking for your date in. They range from straight edge to neo-nazi. You don't want to hang out with a group in which you are diametrically opposed and find yourself uncomfortable—or worse yet persecuted.
