How to Make Pita Pizza
You can make your pizza healthier by using a pita pocket as the crust. It will have fewer calories and more fiber per serving than a regular pizza. Here's a quick and easy pita pizza recipe your whole family will love. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 6 pita pockets
- 1 jar tomato sauce
- 8 oz. low-fat mozzarella
- Baking sheet
- Foil
- Non-stick spray
Instructions
-
-
1
Pre-heat your oven to 400 degrees.
-
2
Spread foil over baking sheet. Then spray the foil with a non-stick spray. This will protect your pan from burnt cheese and sauce.
-
-
3
Arrange your pita pockets on the foil in a single layer.
-
4
Dollop a generous amount of sauce onto the center of each pita pocket. Use your spoon to spread the sauce until it almost reaches the edges. Note that the healthier your sauce, the healthier your pizza. Read the back of the tomato sauce jar for its caloric value. Look for one with little or no added sugar.
-
5
Sprinkle mozzarella onto the top of the pita pizza. Use low-fat cheese, and limit the amount of cheese. A little will go a long way when it comes to flavor.
-
6
Place in the oven and bake for 8 minutes or until the cheese is golden brown. Serve hot.

Tips & Warnings
This is perfect for a kid's birthday party, as every child can create their own pizza with their own toppings.
Provide an array of toppings, which your family can add before baking. Remember the more vegetables, the healthier it is. If you do choose to use meats, try to buy low-fat sausages and pepperoni.
