How to Visit Cape Flattery Lighthouse

Congress commissioned the Cape Flattery Lighthouse in 1854. They paid a sum of $39,000 to have the lighthouse built, as (at that time) it was the northernmost point of the United States. It is located on Tatoosh Island and was meant to help steer merchants among the straights to the mainland. Here are a few tips on how to visit the Cape Flattery Lighthouse.

Instructions

Travel up to the Cape Flattery Trail. The island is no longer inhabited and you cannot get to the Tatoosh Island unless by private boat. So the way to visit the lighthouse is by viewing from observation decks along the trail. To reach the Northwest Peninsula, take Highway 101 to Highway 113 North. Then change onto Highway 112 where you will continue through Neah Bay and ultimately end up at the Camp Flattery trail. Take the trail about 3/4 of a mile until you reach the observation decks.

Sample some of the area's finest foods. The Swan Fish and the Warm House Restaurant are some of the local restaurants that are only a few miles away. The locals around Cape Flattery Lighthouse swear by them so they must be good.

Enter into the Halibut Derby. If you love fishing, there is a local tournament in the nearby town of Sekiu. Check out the Washington State tourism website for more details.

Enjoy other activities as well. Because you can't actually get to the Cape Flattery Lighthouse, visiting it or viewing it will really only take a couple of hours. Take advantage of local bird watching, whale watching and charter boat rentals.
