How to Eat Healthy at Haagen-Dazs

The Haagen-Dazs slogan is "Made like no other," which to them means only using the finest ingredients and offering the best ice cream, sorbet and frozen yogurt. It is a great company philosophy, but the finest ingredients don't always mean you will be able to eat healthy. Fortunately, there are some items at Haagen-Dazs that are available for the health conscious. Here are a few tips to finding them.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the Haagen-Dazs website before you venture out for dessert. It will contains nutritional information and you can see if any of the healthier alternatives appeal to you.

    • 2

Ask if the Haagen-Dazs store near you offers some of the healthier choices, such as low-fat frozen yogurt, light ice cream or sorbet. Many of the same flavors are available at half the fat and calories. Coffee ice cream contains 18 grams of fat and 270 calories, while coffee frozen yogurt contains only 4.5 grams of fat and 200 calories per serving.

    • 3

Compare the fat and calories on the half pints in the grocery store. Although Haagen-Dazs' stores are located around the world, most grocery stores have them in the freezer case where you can see the information on the container. Take note of the serving size; most are a half cup.

    • 4

Read the labels carefully. Most of the sorbets and frozen yogurts are listed as low-fat or fat-free. The coconut sorbet has 16 grams of fat with 160 calories. The chocolate sorbet is low-fat and has one half of a gram of fat, and the raspberry is fat-free. Most of the other sorbets run between 110 and 130 calories per serving.

    • 5

Choose the light ice cream version of your favorite flavor. For instance, regular vanilla bean is 290 calories for a half cup serving and 18 grams of fat. Light vanilla bean ice cream is only 7 grams of fat and 200 calories.

    • 6

Eat only one scoop or, better yet, split with someone. Limit yourself on the extra caloric and fat intake.
