From Quick Guide: Rest and Enjoy Labor Day
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find a place for your beach party. If a local beach or sandy hot-spot isn't convenient, plan the party in your backyard.

  2. Step 2

Give invitations at least two weeks before the party. Make them using sea shells or a lei for each guest with a message attached that includes all the party information.

  3. Step 3

Serve a beach theme meal including brats, hot dogs, burgers and ribs. Throw some pineapple on the grill and serve other fruits and vegetables with a tropical flavor.

  4. Step 4

Make tropical drinks for your guests. Try a Raspberry Tropical Breeze. Blend 3 cups cold water, 12 oz. unsweetened frozen raspberries and 1 container of tropical pineapple/orange flavor drink mix until smooth. Strain to remove raspberry seeds. Stir mixture in large pitcher with 3 more cups cold water and serve. The recipe makes 7 servings.

  5. Step 5

Play beach volleyball. Hold a limbo or hula hoop contest. Keep prizes simple and fun. Give out beach balls, sunglasses or patriotic trinkets.

  6. Step 6

Plan a trivia hour. It's a good time to let everyone sit and cool off. Try to find a shady area to accommodate most of your guests. Focus the questions on Labor Day facts and keep track of the questions the guests get right. Make sure your quiz includes when Labor Day was first celebrated–-in 1882 by the Knights of Labor in New York City.

Tips & Warnings
  • Serve beer, pop and other easy drinks along with the homemade tropical drinks.
  • Keep extra sun screen and bug spray handy for guests who need it.
  • Have a pool or sprinkler handy to cool down guests if you aren't at the beach.
  • Don't forget your vegetarian friends when planning food.
