How to Find Haunted Houses

Haunted houses are a fun activity for Halloween, but purported real haunted houses can be found in most states and counties all year long. Some cities have haunted houses that are famous and easy to find, and may even have tours that show visitors the haunted spots. Others are more difficult to find, requiring some digging and perseverance.

Instructions

1. Start in your own city. Listen to the stories people tell about haunted houses in the area. Ask around about rumors of hauntings.

2. Go through old newspapers, which occasionally run feature stories about local haunted sites. Check old papers around Halloween for the best chances of finding a related story. Ask to check the newspaper's old paper storage area or go to the local library if the newspapers are stored on microfilm.

3. Check online. Go to websites that chronicle hauntings by state or by city. Search for your own area. Disseminate the information you find by taking the quoted source of the haunting story into account.

4. Take a ghost tour. Find out if your city has ghost tours to take tourists around to the most haunted sites in the area. Watch for such tours to be advertised, or call the local chamber of commerce and ask if such tours exist in your city.

5. Check older ghost compendium books for haunted houses that may not be getting publicity lately. Check the library and online for the larger compendiums that offer a comprehensive guide to hauntings.
