So, you've like totally decided to have a party, but don't want it to be way lame. If you and your friends are major pop culture junkies, then it might be a totally awesome idea to have an 80s theme party. All it takes is some wicked music, a few radical decorations, and some tubular costumes to have a theme bash that will guarantee an awesome time for everyone.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Encourage guests to show up in full 80s attire. Send out lists with suggestions beforehand: tight-rolled jeans, slouch socks, shoulder-bearing sweatshirts (ala Flashdance), slap bracelets, belted t-shirt dresses and hair band chic are just a sample of the plentiful options.

  2. Step 2

Rent a karaoke machine and provide an all-80s song list. Nothing says "80s night" like people with microphones belting out "Like a Virgin" and "Thriller."

  3. Step 3

Shop for board games. These days, many popular trivia games offer special 80s editions.

  4. Step 4

Rent DVDs of popular 80s movies, to play in the background of the festivities. This can sometimes create a chain reaction where party guests will begin trading their favorite 80s movie lines, which is always a blast.

  5. Step 5

Shop for 80s compilation CDs. Important note: Good music is a primary staple for a successful 80s theme party.

  6. Step 6

Lay down some linoleum (or a very large sheet of cardboard) to indulge any guests that might want to try breakdancing. Have contests such as "Who can do the best worm?"

  7. Step 7

Decorate the party space with bright, garish colors that don't match. Flourescents are usually best to generate an authentic 80s vibe. Litter the area with popular 80s regalia like Rubicks Cubes and teen heartthrob magazines.

Tips & Warnings
  • Offer an 80s-themed door prize for best costume.
  • If there is an essence of Breakfast Club to your party, keep it light. Otherwise you may end up with a room full of people sitting in a circle, crying and expressing their feelings.
