If your clothes dryer is not drying clothes quickly and thoroughly, it is possible that the hose may need to be replaced. Save money on calling a repair person and do the repair yourself! You can easily replace a clothes dryer hose by following these steps.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Measure the area between your dryer vent where the hose attaches to the hole where the hose will leave the laundry area. Also measure the width of the hole for the hose. A hose too narrow can be a fire hazard.

  2. Step 2

Cut the replacement hose to the appropriate length, leaving it a little long to account for any necessary bends behind the clothes dryer.

  3. Step 3

Unplug the clothes dryer before doing any work on it. The dryer will probably have to be moved around for you to reach the hose area. Working on any appliance that is plugged in is unsafe.

  4. Step 4

Remove the old hose. It is probably attached to the clothes dryer with a large clamp. You can use your fingers or a screwdriver to loosen the bolt. This will loosen the clamp enough for you to pull the hose out of the clothes dryer.

  5. Step 5

Clean the opening of the clothes dryer with a vacuum or brush to remove any loose dust or lint.

  6. Step 6

Install the new hose to the opening in the clothes dryer with the clamp. Tighten the clamp around the new hose.

  7. Step 7

Run the hose to the vent, making sure that there are minimal bends or turns in the hose. The clothes dryer is more efficient if there are few or no bends in the hose.
