Being able to send a fax by computer can really come in handy when you are in a pinch. You avoid a trip to a copy/fax shop and send your document from the comfort of your own computer chair. Many online sites offer fax service; some are free, and some charge a fee.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access
  • Scanner if you have a hard copy of a document to fax
Step1
Choose an online fax service. Many exist and require different commitment levels. A simple one to use is Fax Zero. This company gives you two options. You can send your fax free with an advertisement on the cover page, or if you pay a nominal fee, your fax can be sent with no advertisement. Choose the nominal-fee option for more flexibility concerning the number of pages you can send per day.
Step2
Ensure you have scanned the document successfully or that the file you want to send is complete and stored in an accessible file. If possible, save the document as a PDF.
Step3
Begin completing the online form to send the fax. For the sender, you must enter a name and email.
Step4
Enter the recipient information, including name and fax number.
Step5
Browse your documents and select the file to be sent in the fax. You will receive a confirmation code at this step and be asked to enter it in the required field.
Step6
Make your final selection on the free or fee fax service and send your fax.
Step7
Check your email for confirmation that the fax was successful. Fax Zero will send your fax again if the signal is busy and will send you a notification of this by email.

Tips & Warnings

  • Fax Zero is limited to the United States and Canada.
