How to Evangelize

Jesus told His disciples to "go and make disciples of all nations." To complete this task, Christians must evangelize, or bring the "good news," to everyone they meet. You don't need a pulpit to evangelize. Just follow these steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Preparation

Step1
Pray. It is only by spending time with God that you can accurately represent how good the good news really is.
Step2
Know the scriptures. Read, study, meditate on and memorize passages from the Bible.
Step3
Join a strong faith community that supports you with fellowship, advice and correction.

Building Relationships

Step1
Meet people and get to know them. Ask them about their interests, how they arrived at their current place in life and where they hope to go.
Step2
Talk to others about your own life. When this involves the specifics of how you live as a Christian, it is called a witness.
Step3
Share your witness in small pieces. Even saying that you attend church every Sunday is a witness to many people.
Step4
Put yourself in a position to answer questions. By witnessing in small ways, your friends and acquaintances will start to identify you with your faith. If they don't understand a Christian belief or a practice of yours, they may ask you.
Step5
Use this opportunity to share more of your witness. Be sure to share the parts relevant to the question you were asked.
Step6
Allow the other person to share, too. This will allow you to better focus your words to meet their needs.

The Next Level

Step1
Anticipate the questions that people will ask. Think about your answers in advance.
Step2
Learn how to set the foundations for Christianity. A knowledge of philosophy and apologetics can help you explain your beliefs.
Step3
Continue your own spiritual growth. Go on retreat, fast and pray unceasingly.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember to evangelize to others out of love for them.
  • Don't overwhelm your friends with God talk. Build relationships with social activities and other discussions. The value of your witness lies in how much your friends consider themselves to be like you.
  • Always discuss, never debate.
  • Writing letters is another way to share your faith.
