Step 1
Mix a small portion of the hair coloring and apply to a small section of skin to test for allergic reactions before using. If any allergic reactions occur, do not use the product. Do the allergy test every time you use the product as sudden allergic reactions can occur.
-
Step 2
Start with clean, dry hair. Wash your hair the day before you are going to color it. This gives your scalp time to heal a small scratch that could have occurred while shampooing.
-
Step 3
Test the product on a small strand of hair. Time the test until you have the desired color.
-
Step 4
Wear an old shirt without a collar, or tuck the collar in. Place an old towel around your neck and clip it in place.
-
Step 5
Divide your hair into four sections and clip each section. This will keep stray hair from coming into contact with the hair coloring, and from getting in your way as you touch up your roots.
-
Step 6
Mix the product according to the package instructions. Wear the gloves provided in the package.
-
Step 7
Start at the darkest hair color, usually this is at the crown of the head.
-
Step 8
Carefully apply the hair color to a small section of the dark hair, approximately two inches long. Gently pat into the hair and proceed to the next section below it.
-
Step 9
Time the touch up from your strand test. When the time is up, gently pull the color through to the ends of your hair. This should be done just before rinsing the product out of your hair so it will not lighten the hair, only refresh the color.
-
Step 10
Rinse the coloring out of your hair and shampoo, according to the instructions in your product.
