Step 1
Determine what color is best for you. The color of the pencil eyeliner should compliment your eye color. Brown is a safe choice for any eye color. If you're blue-eyed, choose a navy or charcoal pencil. If you are green-eyed, try sage. Violet looks great on brown-eyed women.
-
Step 2
Decide what brand is best for you. All eyeliners are not the same and you should take some time to find the right one for you.
-
Step 3
Skip your local grocery or "super" store. You take a big chance by buying an eyeliner in a package that you cannot sample first. Chances are it will end up in a box under your sink and you'll be out several dollars.
-
Step 4
Visit a department store, a makeup store or call a beauty consultant that comes to your home. Tell the consultant that you would like to sample eyeliners. They should give you individual sample pencils that are disposable.
-
Step 5
Draw a line on the back of your hand and smudge it with your finger. If the product glides on without any pulling on the skin and smudges easily, it's a good choice. You do not want to choose one that takes effort to put on and take off.
-
Step 6
Choose a color that you like and apply the pencil eyeliner to your eye. Look in the mirror and make sure the eyeliner isn't the first thing you see. The color should highlight your eyes, not overpower them.
