How to Install a Fiberglass Pool

Fiberglass pools are usually factory built and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. While they provide you with hours of swimming fun, as traditional in and above ground pools do, fiberglass pools also have several unique perks, like growing stronger with time and stretching to conform to the changes in the earth around them, which make them a great choice for homeowners.

Things You'll Need:

• Factory built fiber glass pool
• Builder or laser leveler
• Sump pump
• A long piece of PVC pipe

1. Choose a leveled site where the pool can be installed. Keep it close to the access areas of the house. Measure its dimensions and contact a fiberglass pool dealer to order a pool that will fit in the designated area.

2. Chalk out the pool boundary and start digging before the pool arrives. You can either do this by using a shovel or by renting a back hoe. During the process, measure the hole frequently to avoid mistakes. Make sure to dig the hole three inches deeper than the original measurements of the fiberglass pool. These three inches need to be filled with sand to give the pool a proper base and to level it.

3. Once the fiber glass pool arrives, use the back hoe to lift it. Place it in the hole with the help of boards or strong ropes. Use a string to mark the desired water level in the pool. Drill optional holes for an automatic pool cleaner and lights that may be installed later on.

4. Dig another hole at the far end side of the fiberglass pool and install a sump pump in it. Follow the directions that come with the pump. Attach one end of the sump pump to a PVC pipe that will run from the pump under the pool and then lead away from the pool. This will help to create proper drainage for your pool.

5. Fill the fiberglass pool with water up to the desired mark. Let the pool settle itself against the soil that surrounds it. Wait at least two days before enjoying your new fiber glass pool.

• Fill the fiberglass pool a little below the highest point to avoid an over fill.
• Use expert advice when encountering any problem with the pool.
• Do not drain the fiberglass pool as most of them are designed to have water in them at all times.
• Make sure to contact your utility company before you start digging. They will need to come out to your property to mark where your gas and electric lines are buried.
