The Afghanistan Campaign Medal was created on November 29, 2004 by President George W. Bush with Executive Order 13363 and became available for military members serving in Afghanistan in June of 2004. The following steps will aid in your search for ways to be awarded this United States military medal.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging
Step1
Serve in Afghanistan or its airspace as a member of any of the United States Armed Forces for 30 consecutive days or a total of 60 days beginning on October 24, 2001.
Step2
Engage in combat with an enemy force in Afghanistan regardless of the length of service there.
Step3
Get wounded in combat in Afghanistan regardless of the length of service there or suffer a fatal injury while serving in Afghanistan. This includes non-combat injuries.
Step4
Receive previously the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal (GWOTEM) in Afghanistan. A service member may not wear both the GWOTEM and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal for the same period of service.
Step5
Participate in an amphibious operation, parachute drop, helicopter assault or glider attack in Afghanistan to receive the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with the Arrowhead device.
Step6
Engage in combat as a member of the United States Navy while assigned to a Fleet Marine Force unit in Afghanistan to receive the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with the Combat Operations Insignia.
Step7
Be the next of kin of someone entitled to a posthumous award.
