With more than 39,000 miles of ponds, lakes and streams, Maine is known for its fishing. Before you can land a big one, you will have to get a fishing license. Here is how you can apply for a fishing license in Maine.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get your license in person. In Maine, you can buy your fishing license from a licensed dealer. You can get your license from a sporting goods shop, convenience store or town clerk office.

  2. Step 2

Buy your fishing license through the Internet. Just log on to the "Maine Department of Mainland Fisheries and Wildlife" website.

  3. Step 3

Apply for your fishing license by mail. You can look up price information and the address for the Department's office in Augusta, Maine, by searching the "Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife" website.

  4. Step 4

Gather the information that you will need to complete your fishing license application. You will need your driver's license number, a physical description of yourself and credit card information.

Tips & Warnings
  • Get a license for your young adult. Residents who are 16 years old or older must have a license to fish in Maine. Non-residents who are 12 years old or older must also have fishing licenses.
  • Don't send your social security number across the Internet unless your computer has updated anti-theft software. If someone steals your social security number, he can ruin your credit. Protect yourself before you register for a fishing license online.
