If you are tired of dying your hair all the same old boring colors, then maybe it is time for a real change. Follow these steps and you can dye your hair blue, pink, green or any other color to express yourself in a new and vibrant way. Read on to learn how to dye hair wild colors.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Color-safe shampoo and conditioner

    Bleach Hair

  1. Step 1

    Put on plastic gloves.

  2. Step 2

Mix powder bleach with 40 volume developer in a plastic bowl with an applicator brush until smooth.

  3. Step 3

Apply to hair that has not been washed for at least one day. Work into the ends of your hair first and work upwards, but do not apply to roots. Apply to small sections at a time, comb through and rub it around to make sure all of your hair has been covered with the bleach.

  4. Step 4

Brush onto roots after the bleach mixture has been on the length of your hair for about 15 minutes. Get the bleach mixture as close to your scalp as you can without rubbing it into your scalp. Again, make sure that all your hair has been covered.

  5. Step 5

Place a plastic shower cap over your head, gathering all your hair up into it. This will keep your hair moist. If you can sit under heat the bleach will work faster.

  6. Step 6

Test a small section of hair after the bleach has been on for about 30 minutes. Rub the bleach off a small section of your hair to see the shade. You want to bleach your hair as white as possible, but do not leave the bleach on for more than hour.

  7. Step 7

Rinse the bleach from your hair. Check hair for any spots that missed getting bleached. Repeat process on those spots only.

  8. Color Hair

  9. Step 1

Use petroleum jelly around your hairline. This will protect your skin from getting stained by the dye.

  10. Step 2

Apply the color to your hair. Follow the instructions on the hair coloring product, and leave it on as long as possible.

  11. Step 3

Rinse the color from your hair. You want to lean as far backwards as possible while rinsing, having a friend help if one is available, so that you won't stain your skin.

  12. After Care

  13. Step 1

Use a color safe shampoo and conditioner when washing hair, and lean your head back as far as possible to avoid staining your skin.

  14. Step 2

Re-color (but do not re-bleach) your hair every one and a half to two weeks if you want it to remain vibrant. You can expect the color to fade a little bit every time you wash your hair.

  15. Step 3

Touch up your roots once your hair starts to grow out. Just bleach the roots, not the rest of your hair. Then apply color all over.

Tips & Warnings
  • Wear gloves at all times to protect your skin and nails from both the bleach and the color.
  • Don't get the bleach or dye on your clothes, walls or floor. See "How to Dye Hair Without Making a Mess" under related eHows.
  • If you do not bleach out your hair first the color will not stick to your hair.
  • If you leave the bleach on too long or rub it into your scalp you can develop blisters on your scalp.
  • Don't get the bleach in your eyes.
  • Be aware that bleaching your hair is going to damage your hair.
