How to Drive Through Nebraska

Nebraska offers many diverse sights for you to enjoy as you drive through the state. From the Missouri River on the eastern side of the state to the high plains on the western side, the Cornhusker State has much to share with its visitors. Read on to learn how to drive through Nebraska.

1. Enjoy the scenic drive along the Missouri River. Sioux City, Omaha and Nebraska City all offer many activities for visitors. Omaha is the largest of the three.
2. Catch Nebraska's unicameral legislature in session in the state capital of Lincoln. Nebraska is the only state with a one-house legislature. While in Lincoln, enjoy University of Nebraska Cornhusker athletic activities as well. These are just a couple of the many things to do in this cultural center.
3. Visit Grand Island's Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer. If you like birds, check out the Crane Meadows National Center.
4. Pretend you are in a covered wagon traveling along the same trail as our pioneers. As Interstate 80 unfolds, you will cross the Platte River numerous times. Take a detour to one of the many state parks along the way. If it is warm, go for a swim in the river.
5. Watch the nightly Wild West Show at Buffalo Bill's Ranch, if you travel in the summer. It is located just a few miles north of North Platte.
6. Walk down Front Street in Ogallala, where many gunfights took place. Originally the town was the northern end of the long cattle drive from Texas. If water sports are more to your liking, travel a few miles outside of town to Lake C.W. McConaughy.
7. Look for Scott's Bluff as it rises up out of the prairie. This was a major landmark for pioneers as they traveled the Oregon, Mormon and California Trails. Today the monolith is a national monument.
