Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Check for possible sources of baby's irritation before trying to feed her. She should have a dry diaper, a clean nose, and if she's teething, some pain reliever medication as directed by your pediatrician.
Step2
Be aware of what else could be causing fussiness. If your baby had his shots within the past few days, he just may not feel very good.
Step3
Prepare foods that you know she will eat. Don't allow her to fill up on milk first and then try to feed solids. A tummy full of milk won't want to eat.
Step4
Decide if where you are feeding baby is contributing to his fussiness. If baby is not comfortable, feeding will not go well.
Step5
Try calming a fussy baby first with a pacifier, rocking or walking, before trying to breastfeed. A calm baby will nurse better.
Step6
Feed on a regular schedule if at all possible. Babies who miss lunch time or snack time get too hungry and are difficult to soothe.
Step7
Keep baby's nap schedule on track. A tired baby will not feed well.
