How to Copy Cassette Tapes to CDs

There are piles of them, sitting there, collecting dust--remnants of days-gone-by. Those old cassette tapes are relics now, but they contain memories of earlier years, when the music stored on them meant something. You can preserve those memories by copying those tapes to CDs or DVDs.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Purchase an interface that will connect your cassette tape player to your computer via a firewire or USB cable. Also purchase audio CDs or DVDs. Standard discs may work, but the quality of the audio will suffer.
Step2
Attach audio cables to the audio output jacks of your cassette player. These are usually red and white cables, but any RCA-type cables will do.
Step3
Connect the other end of the audio cables to the box or interface that's connected to your computer. This box will also change the audio from analog to digital, so you can edit it on your computer.
Step4
Review the transfer using audio editing software that came with the interface. Edit out any hisses, cracks or pops and make any other changes, depending on the capabilities of the software. Save the file to your hard drive.
Step5
Transfer the edited version of your recording to a blank CD or DVD using your computer's CD/DVD authoring software.
