A family history website is a wonderful way to share pictures and updated information with distant family and friends. It is also a good way to keep track of your growing family. Follow these steps to create a family history website.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Step1
Log on to a website such as "Angelfire," "Free Servers" or "Geocities." They are websites that provide free hosting. These are the easiest to use because you do not have to know HTML or FTP.
Step2
Start by creating a blog. Blogs are very simple websites that provide you with a background and they take care of all the coding for you.
Step3
Register for a homepage. You start this by choosing a URL for your website. Choose something that you and your family can remember and keep in mind that this address is case sensitive.
Step4
Complete the rest of the application. After you are done you will be taken to the webpage editor. Click on the only information available in the box and highlight it.
Step5
Click on "Edit." Choose how you would like your page laid out and the colors that you would like to use on the webpage. Click "Submit" when you are finished.
Step6
Fill out all the information you would like to use on your website. Add a background that appeals to you and change the colors. You might like to add favorite links to your family history website.
Step7
Add a photo album to your family history website. You can do this if you have a digital camera or a scanner.

Tips & Warnings

  • For privacy and safety, do not add personal information on your website.
  • Respect the right of living individuals who may not want their names and birthdates listed on your family history website.
