How to Be a Pogo Cartoon Fan
"Pogo," a cartoon strip drawn by Walt Kelly until his death in 1973, was one of America's most successful and beloved sources of 20th Century satire. Its main character, a possum, even ran for President in 1952. Since the comic strip went out of syndication in 1974, many Americans recall Pogo for one or two of Kelly's infamous quotes--the most famous being, "We have met the enemy and he is us." However, even now, a review of the strips describing life in the Okefenokee Swamp will find Kelly's wry humor right on target. Read on to learn more.
